As you all know - law enforcement can cause some sort of strain on your day to day life. My dad is a psychologist with a doctorate degree from Ohio State University, and he has discovered a machine that he is using with people in the area that are having troubles dealing with events, etc.. The machine uses eyeglasses that use light pulses to stimulate your brain (alpha, beta, theta and delta). You also wear earphones that have a low tone so that you can relax more easily. It is reffered to as a "Light and Sound" machine. The best thing about this method is that there are NO side effects since there are no chemicals used. I was skeptical at first to, but after i have been using it now - i have really seen a difference. I personally use it before i go to work to get more engery (beta session) and sometimes i use it to help me get to sleep (delta session). He receantly dealt with the head of the swat unit in Minnetonka, MN who was burning out from his job. He contacted my dad and learned how to use the machine, he is now working for a department in Florida and attributes his "turn-around" to the machine. THIS IS NOT AN ADVERTISEMENT - my dad doesnt know im doing this, but i think this is the wave of the future. Fairly soon - he is going to start contracting with some of the local departments in Minnesota to which they have already shown interest. You can buy these units (not sure on exact cost) and use them on your own. If you have any questions about this topic - let me know and i will direct you to my dad. Stay safe. 262

I've heard something about it. I didn't know it was that effective. Is there a site for the company that makes these or something? I'd like to read up on it some more.

It is when it is used on a contious basis. What i mean by that is you just dont use it one day and decide not to use it again for 3 weeks or so. The sessions are not that long (average about 20 minutes - so anyone can fit it in their schedule). As far as a website - i could check into it. My dad is a licensed contracter for this stuff so he would have the info on it. If you want to PM me your mailing address - i could have him did up some literature for you to look over if that interests you.

Hmm, Since we're on the job stress bit, I've got a question for you guys.

How do you exactly measure how much job stress you are taking in? I mean, right now, I'm young, I have a blast doing this job, and I don't feel stressed at all. I'm pretty much having the time of my life.

Oh well, I was just curious.

Stay Safe,
Jay

No simple answer to that question. The only thing i can say is that you are one of the lucky ones. There is really no way you can measure stress - you just know you have it when it hits you. Thats why i take the steps listed above to prevent this process from hitting me. I feel the same way you do - love my job but it is impossible to know when the stress will hit. Continued success.
