USMS FLETC for 0082

Anybody out there with good tidbits of info for FLETC for USMS?
Like- things to bring nobody mentioned.
Is equipment for DUSMs issued at FLETC or at District?
useful to bring a laptop?
phones as bad as it sounds on web page?
appreciate any info- hopefully to go in FEB if they dont cut class!

A good pair of running shoes and a good attitude should be about it. They will give you everything else as far as equipment goes. If you drive FLETC will not let your vehicle in without proof of insurance and a valid DL.

Take your car if you can. It can get really boring on the weekends, otherwise. I'd take the laptop too.

Study for the first exam. After that, they're all about the same... so adjust your studying accordingly. Don't pay too much attention when the instructors continually tell you that "this" exam is the hardest one. :) The hardest thing about FLETC is staying awake.

BTW, what district are they sending you to?

Switchback, not sure on district I am supposed to find out by end of 1st week of January. I will be sooooo glad when I have papers in hand and on way to FLETC to start new career:) BTW- any info on what is current issue carry weapon for DUSMs? All i can find out is that DUSMs can carry their choice after the acad as long as it meets certain specs. Thanks

That's the old policy. The USMS used to issue the Ruger GP100 (hey, no laughing). Well, it was actually a pretty smart move. Upon graduation you were alllowed to purchase your own weapon (9mm up to .44, at least a 6 round capacity, must have firing pin safety block, and double (safe) action on first trigger pull). Well, the issue weapon got sent back for some other poor new hire once you purchased/qualified with another weapon. The Service never had to buy weapons. :)

Well, most od us loved it. However, with the hiring DEOs and 082s came a new firearm policy. All new hires are issued Glock 22, .40. This is the only weapon permitted for duty carry for new hires (as well as those existing employees wishing to be issued the weapon). As the policy is relatively new, I am not clear of the off duty weapon requirements, though I imagine they will be similar to the old policy (pretty much the same as duty except .38s and .380 are permitted and there must be a minimum of 5 round capacity.

Also, regarding equipment: You will get the bulk of it at FLETC. Some gear, however, will be issued at the district level... be patient with that, though.

Is it possible the new firearm policy varies by district? And I believe you about the GP100. When I visited the Atlanta office one of the senior deputies still carried it!
