I was wondering if I should go with the level II from safariland or the level III. Ill be going to the acadmey first then the street. And I have never pulled a gun from a holster. Is the III hard to manipulate or is it like anything else, just takes practice.

I used a level 2 for my first year. I liked it and had no problems with it. During my second year we got new firearms and new holsters which were level 3. It took a while to get used to, but I can draw my gun out of the level 3 as easy as it was to draw the level 2. It does take a lot of practice to get the "muscle memory" down.
If there is a certain department that you will be working for, ask them if they have an requirements for holsters. I know of several departments that mandate a level 3 holster.

Both are great holsters. I prefer the Level 2 for a couple of reasons;
(1) A more natural draw stroke, forward and up.
(2) If you are seated in a car it is alot harder to draw out the level 3 as it is a rearward stroke.

Our firearms instuctor told us this, and I guess in a way its true, we have all heard the saying Practice Makes Perfect, but the true saying should be Perfect Practice Makes Perfect, because if your doing it wrong practicing then what good are you doing, now with that in mind, I would get the SSIII and use it through school that way when you get on the street then you'll already have it down pat and if for some reason you had the SSII and they made you go to the SSIII then you would be in trouble because you'd have to do all that practicing, but if you had one through school and practicing using it then its already in your muscle memory and you'd be good to go.
