All,

I guess I should have introduced myself earlier.

I have been lurking around these boards for some time and the amount of good information is overwhelming, BUT very helpful.

I am currently in the final stages of the hiring process (pending my second opinion from my eye doctor) for a small department in Southern Ca.

I can truly attest to two things the VETS have reiterated time after time:

(1) Always tell the truth; I've had my share of blemishes, BUT I carefully explained them without providing any excuses to why it happened.........

(2) In reference to #1, NEVER give up; It has taken me six years and multiple departments here in Cali and on the East coast, to finally make it as far as I have. It has been a long road, BUT well worth it.

I have my conditional letter of hire and I am hoping it all works out for me, BUT no matter what happens I am satisfied to have gone the distance.

I wish the best of luck for all those who continue to chase their dreams............

Sigy,

Thanks for the welcome.

Honestly, the weather is the only thing that is nice here as of late. You aren't missing much unless you like alot of TRAFFIC.

Since I have moved back, the traffic has been horrible. The roads are definitely too small for the mass influx of people.

Oh well, still nice here anyway............

That is very true. People here complain about being stuck in traffic for 15-20 minutes. Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They don't know traffic until they are stuck on the 405 at 5:00 pm.

Folks,

Just had my second opinion for my eyes today and it doesn't look good.

I apparently lack stereoscopic vision (depth perception) all due to a binocular vision impairment. I never realized I had this problem as I have been afflicted with it for many years........

If you have never had it you never miss it...........

They gave me this 3-D test and I failed miserably, never thought 3-D was so important, BUT now I know it is a good measurement for depth perception.

I have never had a problem with depth perception, BUT because I don't fit within the California POST standards it doesn't look good.

The doctor did say that I would never have trouble with "normal" depth perception per se, BUT I should never plan to become a pilot or surgeon. LOL

It is a bummer, but I would hate for this to become a safety issue in the future.

Final word from the city will come next week.

Just a question for anyone, especially California Officers, ever heard of binocular vision requirements being waived?

I have normal color vision and my eyesight is 20/40 uncorrected and 20/20 corrected.

Thanks

Grace

All

Here is an update on my situation:

I was medically disqualified for not having "normal" binocular fusion.

Unfortunately, this follows the CA P.O.S.T standards closely and pretty much prevents me from applying anywhere especially here in California.

I would like to wish all other aspiring police officers the best and lots of luck..........

Semper,

Grace
