Calling all FL LEO's.

I'm thinking about moving to Florida here pretty soon and I need to know what to do about getting my certification transfered from NC to FL?

Also I'm looking for something in dispatching to get my feet wet down there, I figure it would be a great way to get my foot in the door and this way I would get to know everyone, and the location of all places.

Go to the Florida Department of law Enforcement (FDLE) website, or contact them directly. There you can get info about becoming Fla certified. In a nutshell, FDLE must review and accept your out of state certification. If you meet their requirements, then you will be required to attend a two or three week mini-academy at one of a number of community colleges around the state. At this mini-academy they review the high liability areas i.e., firearms, driving, defensive tactics etc. they also go over Florida law. After completing this academy, you are authorized to take the state certification exam, which consists of about 350 questions divided into approx 7 sections. You must pass all sections. If you fail one section, then you must re-test only the failed section before being certified. be advised the mini-academy does not prepare you to take the state exam. it is only an overview of the areas I listed. You will recieve a study guide to help prepare you for the state test.

If FDLE does not accept your out of state certification, then you must attend a full blown police academy, then take the state certification exam.

For additional info on this site, do a search under Florida, or Florida LE, or Florida certification, or something to that effect and you should get previous posts about becoming certified in Florida. Hope this helps. Good luck.
