DOES ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE COOK COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPT. I WORK FOR A SMALL COUNTY NOW, BUT I'M LOOKING TO RELOCATE AND HOPEFULLY JOIN THEIR ELECTRONIC MONITORING UNIT.

You have to work in the jail or as a deputy for like 5-7 years before moving into the Sheriff's police. Ive heard they lose alot of folks cause of it.

Customs Cop hit it on the head, but 5-7 isnt the case usually. This department is very very political trust me on that. I know of many guys who've been there for longer periods and have sufficient education. Unless you know one of the higher ups you'll be in the jail for a long time..

I asked the guys who do court security (deputies) and they that you could be in the jails for five years. On December 11, was the only day that they were giving out applications and due to the County cut-backs they are not hiring. I have heard good things about the agency when you do hit the streets and work investigations.
