View Full Version : pot usage
Hello,
I'm considering applying for the Sacramento PD. I'm 34 and have a BA. Problem, I have tried pot about 7 times in my life, the last time was about 8 months ago. Will this DQ me?

Chances are this is going to DQ youat this time. Most departments require a minimum of at least 2 years of no drug use. I would wait awhile before applying.
It won't look good that you are 34 years old and still smoking pot either. Good Luck!

..........you see experimental use of marijuana is often looked at as minor, however, that is usually if the use occurred during the teens to early twenties. With you having used MJ not only as an adult, but only 8 months ago I could see them declining to hire you on that basis. Not to be judgmental, but is there any reason for you to be using that crap so late in the game. I will be the first to admit, I toked a few times while I was growing up in NYC, but after I grew up (+18) I saw no use for the stuff. Maybe it was something that was pounded into me at Marine Corps boot camp. Who knows? Good luck in your pursuits, if it's meant to be it'll happen for you.
I agree with the above. First, most departments like 2 - 3 years from the last use. Second, and most important ( in my opinion ) it looks worse for a 34 y.o. to smoke compared to a kid in high school, by then you are expected to have better judgement.
Put the 2-3 years behind you, and give it a shot. Until a dept says NO, you will always wonder.
The above posts said it all. I'm real familiar with the Sac P.D. and agree exactly with what the others said. They will D Q you. Put a lot more time between you and your last usage. Even with that, you doing it at that age.................doesn't look good for ya, sorry.

MOst departments I applied to need a 3 year clearance rate for soft core drug useage. Not to be judgemental, but it is not going to look good that you are 34 yrs. old, and you smoked pot 8 months ago. A lot of background investigators will see that as being irrespondsible.
