Hello,

I am new to this forum. I am currently in the US Army and I am planning to retire in Jul 03. I am looking at trying to go to work as a Pennsylvania Parole Agent. Can anyone give me some insight to the hiring process. What to expect etc

The PA State Parole Agent hiring is a civil service process. Your service time will acquire you the usual extra points on the civil service exam. The exam is actually fairly difficult for a civil service exam, however with the extra points a good score is attainable. Work experience will not mean much in the process. You must have a four year degree to apply. Most of the new hires I have seen coming on are Children and Youth Service workers who get the preference due to them already being civil service certified. It's pretty much a crap shoot if you ask me. Don't limit yourself to just State Parole in PA. County Probation and Parole in PA does the same job, has the same training, and is not a civil service position. Which means the more qualified canidate has a better chance at getting the position. Granted the pay is usually better in the state system.
