Ok, I'm sitting here at the internet computer at work minding my own business. My partner is reading a magazine over at her console. No radio traffic. A few officers are on calls. 4 o'clock in the morning. All of sudden!! "TriCom from 1 Paul 2!!! Rookie officer keys up yelling. I practically fall out of my chair as I'm running to my console to plug in, leaving my pounding heart splattered on the computer screen because thats where it landed after it flew out of my chest. I'm thinking ok, he getting the crap beat out of him or he's being shot at... My partner says Go ahead. And what does the rookie officer say? "Can I have our report number please?"...........................

AARRGGHH!!!!!!!! HOLY MARY MOTHER........*sigh* Ok...Time for a friendly MDT message.... Of course the other officers that have just pee'd themselves are MDT'ing up to us saying they are going to kill him themselves... LOL... :) Gotta love these guys, rookies and all.

I was getting pretty sleepy, hopefully the gallons of adrenaline flowing through my system will last another3 hours.....

Just thought I'd share....

LMAO! Suprisingly here it is not our rookies but the veterans that do it occasionally just to scare the bejesus out of us. Rookies here are required to sit in on comms before they go to the academy and on any breaks/holidays from the academy. So I think they realize what goes on and have somewhat of a clue when they go out.

The sad thing is they are required to sit up here during their FTO program for several hours. We try to teach them.... *sigh*

Anyone who has ever had to train a rookie copper KNOWS why animals eat their young!
I was NEVER that stupid or obnoxious.
The two things these academies DON'T teach are maturity & common sense!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Just remember that everyone is young, foolish,
eager when they start. We all were once upon a time.
Then try to get it right for the FTO ............
With that much excitement surging thru your
system, you were probably good to go for the rest of
the shift. SNICKER

Young, well, the near side of 24. Eager, yes, wanted to do a good job. But foolish? Definitely not.
When I first started out, I brought a lot more maturity to the job at my age then the 24 year olds nowadays.
Maybe it had to do with my upbringing. Who knows?

IL_Lawman,

Are you really that stereotypical, or are you just having a bad day? That is ridiculous to say/think that there are no mature 24 year olds that are becoming good cops "nowadays".

Geez, you sound like every other threatened old geezer.

Relax dude, all people make mistakes, and to say you made no "foolish" mistakes is quite a leap I'm sure.....it would be interesting to ask those you work with especially.

The way your worded your response indicates just how little you show anyone respect.
1) You don't refer to people you don't know well enough as "dude" and "geezer". I've got a sad wake-up call for you here. You take this attitude of yours out on the street & some "geezer" may decide that he's going to wipe the street up with you, just to TEACH you some respect. I've seen it happen. If that doesn't happen, then I GUARANTEE you that you'll have more beefs filed against you for your attitude problem than there are pages in the phone book.
2) I NEVER said that there are no 24 year olds who
won't make good cops. I said that I was 24 when I started.
I stand by my comments. The work ethic is lacking in the majority of the younger generation - I see that when I interview people for Dispatcher positions. The lack of respect is also readily apparent.
I'll give you 21 years on the job like I've got & we'll see what your opinions will be like!

I don't disrespect your experience and your opinions, but I definitely don't respect your attitude towards "the work ethic of the younger generation". Seriously, that sounds like something Ward Cleaver would say on an exciting episode of Leave it to Beaver.

I would venture to say that there are JUST AS many lazy, foolish cops with 21 years experience than there are rookie cops. How many cops do you know just buying their time until retirement? Is that right?

On the contrary, I don't have an attitude problem at all. I would never say these things to a cop on the street, or in my department, unless I felt comfortable with him/her. I say it here because this is a public forum, and we are all free to express our thoughts.

Lets face it, I don't know you, you don't know me.....so why make overall generic comments about things we are ignorant too?

Lazy ones won't last in any PD that is even remotely active. The other troops won't want to work with him/her.
Foolish ones won't live to see 21 years. They may not even make it out of probation alive & unscathed.
I agree with the lack of supervision comment. I've seen that way too many times over the years also.
