is there parking or do most recruits take the train, ferry, or a bus? I drove by it the other day and it looked like there was no parking anywhere.

day one they will tell u to use public transportation....you actually arent allowed to drive for two reasons...lack of parking for uniformed officers...and since recruits are supposed to arrive in uniform...you cant drive i uniform...but for the ones who do...there are some paid parking lots...but they can be expensive...i prefer mass transit...its free...and u dont have to worry about parking...

ONLY THING ABOUT MASS TRANSIT IS THAT YOU ARE WEARING A UNIFORM THAT SAYS "NEW YORK CITY POLICE ACADEMY". EVERYONE KNOWS YOUARE A COP IN TRAINING---YOU ARE UNARMED--MANY HAVE BEEN ATTACKED IN THE PAST---YOU WILL ALSO BE EXPECTED TO TAKE SOME TYPE OF ACTION SHOULD AN EMERGENCY SITUATION ARISE

take mass transit, you can't park from 14thst. to 24thst. and from the FDR to Lex. The ICO does spot checks and they issue CD's for parking all the time.

they do issue alot of cd's...and as for gettig beaten up on the train goes...when i have to report to he academy...i too have to be in full uniform...and like a recruit...i dont have a gun...and people are usually nice and very curious..but ive been called "officer" more times then you'd believe...and people expect u to know and take care of everything...its funny...scary...both at times...

Question for those in the know.
I have my written psych on Feb 12 @0600.
I live out if state(CT) and the trains don't leave early enough to get there for 0600.
Where can I park so I don't get a ticket, or get my Balls broken?
Drive right past the academy, at your first traffic light make a Right, continue down to your next traffic light and make another right.
About 15 yards up on the right there will be a parking garage. it might cost you like 10-15 bucks as long as you get their in the AM, but it def. beats getting a ticket or towed!

thats really your only option...
Papimike, does members of the NYPD police academy being attacked happen often? Have you ever heard of anyone being badly hurt. The main reason I ask is because I will be taking the train in from out east long island then will have to take a Bus/subway to the academy. I just want to know what Im in for.

I have a friend at the NYPD academy right now who graduates the end of march. From what I hear from him everything you guys say about the parking and riding the trains is true and at times can be much worse. He just told me about paying $40 a day to park while working that World Economic Conference detail. Sometimes I question why he left our agency for NYPD, I think he's nuts, but it got him home and thats something it would have taken the USBP ten years to accomplish. At least he'll be doing real law enforcment. Good luck, stay safe.

it doesnt happen that much..especially on the more crowded trains...i did it for 3+ monthes in the cadet corps....usually most people are nice to u and wish u luck...some ask for directions (alot)....but for the most part its positive....i did have some people bust my chops...but all u can do is eat it...and move on....
