Today my call finally came. I was offered a position as an ATF special agent. I start February 24 in the Boston Field Division.

Here is my timeline:

May 2000- initial application
September 2000- TEA exam
March 1, 2001- interview
October 2001- drug screen/medical
November 2001- Polygraph
November/December 2001- background investigation
January 2002- offered position as S/A

Good luck to everyone else still in the process. It sure is a long wait, but worth it. Hopefully, I will regain color in some of these gray hairs!!

My timeline is nearly identical to yours, except that I took the polygraph in December after my BI. Hopefully I'll get a call sometime also (and I know there are a few others in the same boat - hopefully we'll all know soon).

Anyway, good luck to you, and happy to hear the news.

Congratulations, Mike job well done. Could you post your quals so I could see what they might be looking for for next time. Keep us posted when you get to fletc. Did you say you are assigned to the Boston field office? That's great that you can be placed near your home. Congratulations again.

Congratulations mikelldud!!!! I figured you weren't too far behind me. Now as it turns out we'll be starting on the same day and will no doubt be at FLETC together. No word on when that might be yet either. A friend of mine working in the Detroit office said they still have guys that hired on last summer waiting to go to school. Are you coming from a LE position right now?

Where was Boston listed on your dream sheet? The Detroit office re-assigned me to Flint too, which was my first choice. So if there's an office within the Boston Field Division you would rather go to that still might be possible. I didn't even mention my desire to go to Flint when I talked to the SAIC. He just offered on his own and I snatched it up.

Drop NYfed a PM/email too. He was assigned to the Boston office last summer/early fall. You can also do a search under his name in the fed. forum here. He's posted some good info. about the job since he's been hired.

And by the way, I did say that you should be one of the one's to fill a slot this year. You can thank me for the good carma by buying me a beer at FLETC. I'll take a Guiness.
:D
KC135Nav,

Tie a knot at the bottom of your rope and hold on tight. You're next!! What did you list on your dream sheet? Don't bet on this, but you can reasonably expect to get something in your top 3 choices. In fact it seems that most get 1 or 2. I would also call the SARC and make sure they have the right contact info. for you (wink, wink), which is really only a reason to call and try and find out info. on when you might hear something. Good luck.

Mikelldud:

Still here, working hard in Beantown. Send me a PM, and I'll find out what group you are going to. The whole office is great, though.

To you and K9 - I'm going to CITP on March 21, and there are other behind me, so don't count on going to FLETC anytime soon.

Congrats!

I actually am going to the Manchester, New Hampshire office, which I do not think is even open yet. I am currently a police officer here in Massachusetts, but Manchester is only about a 1 hour drive from my house. So, I am happy that I do not have to move. Manchester, NH was not one of my choices, but all of my choices were within the Boston field division. A former co-worker of mine started in September down in the Providence office, and that was my first choice, but I am actually very happy to be going up to NH. I will be even happier when I start comparing real estate prices.

As far as my qualifications go, I did 4 years in the military, have a B.S. in Criminal Justice, and have been a police officer for 7 years. I started out with the U.S. Capitol Police then moved on to a large county PD, and a smaller department as well. I did the 10 week police training program at FLETC, so hopefully that will make life easier down there the second time around. I will gladly join you guys for some/many beers when we arrive.

I just consider myself to be very fortunate at this point.

Good Job and way to go. I interviewed last March, and have completed the BI, but I haven't done the poly. Since I got picked up with USCS, I've sort of lost interest in the ATF process, and I'll likely pull myself out once I start CITP.

NYfed,
I tried to send you a pm, but your box is full.

macleod-lewis,
Thanks, and good luck with USCS. I have heard the same good things about both agencies. Be safe.
