I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Andrew and i'm from Nassau County, NY. I have been waiting impatiently for the NCPD test for almost 4 years now and had heard they plan of actually giving it sometime this year (i HOPE). I'm sure this question has been asked before, but I wanted to know what I can do to prepare for this test (besides the obviouos like studying procedure, etc.. and the physical part). I currently work as a Network Engineer for a top software company and have been doing so for the last 3 years. I am extremely talented with anything computer realted, including phone switches, wireless devices and with electronics in general.
I have an uncle in the 1st, a friend of the family in the SCPD (captain), and a few friends in NYPD and they all have told me due to my background in computer and computer security that I would spend a shorter than normal time as a PO and been on a good candidate for detective (which is my goal). Is this true? Is there any civil service position I can get into just in case the test is again, not offered this year? I am unhappy at my current position and have wanted to become a police officer since early high school......any words of wisdom?
Sorry for the long post....just wanted to explain where I am coming from. Thanks!
