In New York, Parole & Probation Officers are "Peace Officers" under CPL 2.10.... In my area, No. New York, Parole Officers are armed, Probation Officers are not....

In Louisiana we have full arrest powers as peace officers, one district even gave out badges saying "State Special Agent" because of the fact we had arrest powers anywhere in the State and worked on different Task Forces with Local, State and Federal Agencies.

Here in Nevada, I know P&P officers are considered Peace Officers, but Im not sure what their arrest authority is.

As ACO stated, in NY Probation and Parole Officers have peace officer status. In Suffolk County both are armed. Suffolk Probation does their own warrants and often times works in conjunction with the P.D. as well as many other LE agencies.

NJ just passed a bill that will give 200 officers full arrst powers over the whole state and ability to carry firearms. We always had powers of arrst over probationers with BW's and in the unit I am in I can take any kid to the detention cntr that violates our EM program. That was done through our assignment judge. The only thing this will do for me is give me a firearm. In Camden you will not have time to lock up all the people you see drug dealing and such so it will not make much differnence day to day. The dept. gives us handcuffs, asp, and capstun. We will attend an academy for the firearm and get more advanced training for the other stuff. It must be implimented by law within 18 months. The vests are already ordered and on the way. The courts do not want this stuff, but the law makers know the job is crazy. I mean when you search a kids room and find bags of crack and a loaded gun and you don't have a gun, get real. For years they told us to bring a cop with us. The cops in Camden don't have time to help us. Oh well it should be interesting. Hey Stubrie, you keeping those Mass. brats in line up there?
