Hi Gang! ~

Just wondering if anyone has this system and what you think about it. Any input is appreciated.

Thanks!

We have it. Seems pretty cool. I am in investigations so I haven't had a chance to really play with it, (since they are only in the marked units right now). The Lo-jack company gave them to our department for free and installed them in our units, (hence the tell-tale four antennas in a square pattern on the roof). They are supposed to be giving us a protable version you could use in an undercover or unmarked car.

We haven't gotten a stolen yet with it, but perhaps when more people begin to install the user end in their cars we might get a spike.

We have it also and it seems ok. We have recovered a few with it but over all we really don't use it. I don't think many of the public have it installed on their cars.

None of the 3 departments I dispatch for have the system and I don't recall my PSAP ever getting a call from the company reference a stolen vehicle equipped with it.

I've never even heard of it...what is it? That technology hasn't made it across the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers yet I suspect. haha

It's a system that a person can buy for their vehicle where a transmitting device is installed somewhere in the car, (hidden). If the car is stolen, the owner is able to report this and the company, (LoJack) will send out a radio signal to the install system and the system will begin transmitting a code over a radio wave.

Police vehicles with the other end of the system have a sensor in the car that picks up these signals and gives a tone and arrow pointing to the direction of the car, (also gives a number code that the dispatch can run in the computer to get the make/model/year etc of the vehilce and cofirm it is stolen). It is basically a homing beacon that will alert any car equipped with it if it is activated and within a cerain distance.

A police car with the system could drive around all day and as soon as it picks up a signal you can home in on where the stolen vehicle is.

We have it and it does work. My department uses from our air squads as welkl as radio cars. We train by having a remote unit hidden in our area and then we track it. We found that the car thiefs are now parking the stolens for a day or two to make sure that the lojack was not activated. Most of the time the owner does not even know where the unit has been placed. We have a homing system in the car that locks onto the activated unit and gives us a unit id. We can verify the car by the id. Its a good system but most people dont buy it. Big push as an option on new cars out here in Los Angeles. Some insurance companies have started giving discounts for having it.
