Detroit Police Traffic Officer Shot and killed. Officer Michael Scanlon stopped a vehicle on Tuesday night 2-12-02 for making an illegal turn. The driver was being frisked outside of the suspects vehicle by Officer Scanlon, who was working alone. A scuffle began and the suspect pulled a weapon and shot the officer, The officer also fired and struck the suspect. After the officer fell to the ground, the suspect fired a shot into his back. The suspect was arrested later at a local hospital after showing up at the E.R. with a chest wound. A second supect in the vehicle escaped on foot and is being sought. (article Detroit Free Press). The News is now reporting that the Detroit Officer was not shot, but stabbed. The suspect pulled a knife and started struggling with the officer. The officer suffered several stab wounds to the neck. He was able to shoot the suspect in the chest. The suspect was admitted to the hospital.

This is truly sad, there hasn't been a major incident in Detroit for a while. The bad thing is I live in Michigan. I have not seen this incident in the media at all. My prayers go out to the family of this officer. I will look for any articles that our papers have and maybe see what they say happened.
