Hello all,

Just wanted to update some of you as to my situation.

Still going strong at my current academy. Finishing up arrest control, and doing some interesting classes like Gangs, Vehicle Stops, etc.

I've had a conditional offer of employment since December.....which would become an "official offer" when I graduated. I've been waiting patiently to hear from the hiring Sgt., and he just contacted me the other day. Here is the interesting part.

I become certified on May 16. The "mini-academy" at my hiring agency begins May 6. They want me to wait until I become certified to start (which I can understand), but I'm not too excited about missing the first 2 weeks of their mini-academy. They said they will work at catching me up.....but doesn't seem like the start I had anticipated. Beginning my new career, I was wanting to get all the information I could from the get-go. They said this had more to do with "employment laws" then anything. Could somebody explain that to me?

Anyway, I've got a call into the Sgt., and I just want to see if anything else can be arranged. If not, I'll make it work....but I'm really hoping they'll just let me start 2 weeks early. I've done well in my academy (currently ranked # 2), and I have no worries that I won't pass.

If they are willing to catch you up don't push the issue. The Sgt. can't give you the okay to come early if you have not completed a state certified academy. I am baseing this on the assumption that you are working for an agency that does not have a POST academy. I don't work for an agency that has a mini academy but I think they just talk about alot of city specific stuff. If someone works with you one on one you will have no problem making up the 2 weeks in just a few days. Stop worrying so much.

Have fun'

CO- Glad to hear everything is still going well for you. Like Trooper stated I wouldnt worry about it too much. I'm sure they'll find a way to get you up and running because there'll be a few things you'll need to get certified in and familiar with before you hit the streets, i.e., sfst, intoxilyzer, muni codes, reports, arrest control, felony stops, etc.
You still got to learn it their way so they'll get you trained and ready to go!
Good luck!
