The guys I work with have gone the past few years and say it's the best time they ever had. the block of a few blocks and the bear flows. Your able to meet guys that are on the job from almost every dept or agency you can think of. If your looking for info you can go to the NLEMF web page at WWW.NLEOMF.COM.

If you guys are coming to Washington for the Memorial Week, please make sure you stop by and see the Memorial Quilt.

Each year a local woman hand sews a quilt with 100 patches from agencies all over the world. These patches are donated by officers from the following year. There are several patches on this year's quilt that were donated by fallen officer's families, with a special request that the officer's name be sewn under them.

Each year we sell tickets to raffle off the quilt. ALL of the money, every dime, is donated to the Law Enforcement Memorial Fund. All supplies for the quilt, and the time it takes to put it all together is donated.

I hope to see you all there this year. It will be a very special year, in more ways than one. If you do stop by to see us, tell us you saw this post.

The Candlelight Vigil is May 13th this year. They are expecting a huge turnout. It is quite a sight to see. I'll be volunteering down there handing out candles and programs. After the ceremony everyone goes down to the FOP area and parties up.
If you are in the area you should check it out.

Can anyone give some advice on where first timers should park, stay, etc. I am driving up (from North Carolina) on the night of the 14th, will be there for the 15th, and have to get back on for day shift on the 17th. Any insight would be GREAT.

There are a number of hotels in the area that are reasonable. I would suggest staying in Virginia or Maryland and driving into the city. You can stay in College Park, Maryland, which is only a few miles out. Or, Alexandria, Virginia, which is also not far. In both places there are Holiday Inns, Comfort Inns, Marriotts, and others. Also, ask about a police discount. I'm not sure if they are doing it this year, but some hotels in Alexandria gave a small discount for Police Week. Do a search on the web for hotels in the area.

Parking is pretty much where you can. Make sure you park in a legal space. The FOP and attendees pride themselves on the fact that there are no trouble makers, and we all abide by the local laws. I wouldn't suggest taking the Metro, unless you're someone who goes to bed early. The Metro only runs until 1:00 am, I believe. Usually, if the weather is nice, the partying doesn't break up until about 2 or 3 am.

Have fun and hope to see you there!

This was a great week. Even though I couldn't feel my ass from so much Harley riding this past week, I had the best time ever. This was a first for me, but I will definitely be back every year...some very touching moments, some great times, overall...excellent.

Hope everybody had a good time.
