Well, I received a phone call about an hour ago from the Human Resources Department for the City of Wausau (Wisconsin). I am officially being offered employment with the Wausau Police Department.
IT FINALLY HAPPENED!!!! :bounce:
My official start date is March 8th (swearing in, getting fitted, etc.). Recruit training begins either March 11th or March 18th (both the department brass and HR people were unclear about the date, which is listed as the 18th on the orientation packet given to me by the department). I've emailed the administrative assistant for the recruit program to get the "official" word on the date.
Ten weeks of training, and it's on to FTO. Damn, am I relieved and nervous at the same time!!!
An immeasureable amount of thanks to all of you who gave me advice, help, support, etc. If you're ever in Wausau, Wisconsin, get in touch so I can buy ya' a beer! :)

Congratulations! Welcome to the ranks of Wisconsin's Finest! Are you going to Fox Valley for the academy? I've heard it's probably the best in the state. I went to Chippewa Tech. in Eau Claire about 8 years ago. It was a good school also. Take care, and good luck.

Well, I go on the 6th for the "financial/benefits/insurance" stuff, and then on the 8th go to be sworn in, fingerprints, picture, sizing, issued equipment, etc.
Needless to say, the nervousness has set in again. At least this time I have control over my own outcome (unlike the hiring process). I will certainly, without a doubt be busting my behind to succeed at recruit school and FTO to be as perfect as possible.
Recruit school for me will be at Northcentral Technical College (right in Wausau -- probably why the dept. doesn't mind hiring non-certified people). I did get confirmation that school starts on the 18th for me, which is great since I have to find a place to live, move, hook-up cable and the internet -- you know, all of the important stuff. ;)
Thanks again for the support. Nearly nine months and seven applications later, I can finally tell the family to quit asking "how is it going?" !! LOL
Stay safe,
- Steve

A job well done! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! I knew it would come for you, just a matter of time. Stop with the nervousness!!! Go out and celebrate Officer. You will do fine in the Academy and FTO. I am sure Eau Claire taught you a thing or two about studying and tests.
Way to go! Can I ask how the psych test went??? I might have mine coming up soon and was just wondering how yours was. Congratulations again. Is it as sweet as you thought?
Good luck and stay safe

The psych eval was... weird. The psychologist was friendly, but kinda' cold. He didn't really warm up to us as I was imagining. Anyhow, there was some kind of logic/reasoning test, and then the NEO-PI, and then the MMPI-2. All together, close to 900 questions! Then we met with the psychologist for about 20 minutes, and we chatted. He asked about family, growing up, school, work experience, education, and why I wanted to be/thought I would be a good cop. Not much to it -- not as bad as I thought it would (I was worried it would be on the adversarial side).
However, I do know each department has a different psychologist perform the eval, and each shrink does things differently.
BTW, I was the only one dressed-up for the evaluation! Most others had the khakis/polo shirt or in one case jeans/polo shirt. Oh well, better to be over-dressed than to be under-dressed. :)

williamssd,
Conratulations and welcome to the "Wonderful World of Law Enforcement." Remember three things while in the academy...study, study, study.
Also, remember there are no dumb questions. It's better to ask the question and have it answered in an academy setting than get on the street and second guess yourself and put yourself or someone else's life in jeopardy.
Finally, relax, have fun and help your fellow trainees out. What I would give to for a 10 week academy. I still have 9 weeks, but my academy is 32 weeks.
Again, congratulations.
Stay Safe!!!
