FLETC - Golf?
For those of you that have been through FLETC (GA), are there any public golf courses that are highly recommended that are close by? Are there any that should be skipped...??
There looks to be about a dozen or so within a short drive. Several of them on Saint Simons Island...

Not a golfer, but lot of retired ATF folks play Sea Palms. Only have two tips:
1. When the gator comes after you, do not run in a straight line. Short distance a gator can outrun a horse, but can't change direction well.
2. Do not look back at the gator. You might not see the 8 foot copperhead sunning itself on the fairway.Last edited by ATF SAC; 08-19-2009 at 10:33.

I hope we are at FLETC at the same time NJ_Enz. I'm interested in golf too and am interested in gathering some more information on the courses located around Bruswick.
I've played the Sea Pines courses in Hilton Head before including Harbour Town, they are very nice. Harbour Town is very expensive, I don't recall the prices for the other two (maybe three) courses located in the Sea Pines Resort. But, they seem to be about 80 miles away.

The other 2 courses are Ocean Course and Heron Point by Pete Dye (used to be called Sea Marsh, but was closed for about a year for remodeling). Here is a link to Sea Pines golf courses: http://www.seapines.com/golf/golf_courses.cfm
You can google St. Simons golf courses. Here is a link I found:

It has been several years, but I played Oak Grove when it first opened, you used to be able to get on at the Brunswick CC on Rt. 17, and there were coupons for Sea Palms in the weekly FLETC flyer. Jekyll Island has 3 18 hole courses and a 9 hole course, so you can always get a tee time there.
There used to be a nice little 9 hole track right outside of the back gate, but it is gone.Last edited by spb10059; 08-19-2009 at 10:04.

NJ, check out the Student Recreation office. It used to be in building 262. They should have the latest scoop on golf deals in the area.

There are three courses on Jekyll Island, one on St. Simons (Sea Palms), Oak Grove, Sapelo Hammock and another called Coastal Pines.
All but Sea Palms offer some sort of FLETC discount. Oak Grove is off Exit 37 (I think that is the number; old timers know it as Exit 7). Coastal Pines is on the same Exit as FLETC but west of I-95. Sapelo Hammock is farther north on 17 probably about 40 minutes from FLETC. Jekyll is nice but more pricey. Sea Palms is expensive and not great. Heard from local realtors that the owners keep the prices high actually discourage play. They eventually are trying to close the course so they can build more houses. Not much unused space on the island.
You can also head south towards St. Marys and the Jacksonville area or head north towards Savannah/Hilton Head.
Plenty of courses to keep your game in shape.
