Thread: Help Me Decide

I have been trying to return to the Federal Work Force for the past two years, but the journey has been so tough. Recently, I received a T/O from the US Customs and Border Protection in Houston, TX as a CBP Technician at the GS 05 step 10 and another offer from the ICE as a Law Enforcement Technician in Williston, VT for the same salary grade. Although I have not decided which job to take, but I am undergoing my background investigations and would like to have your opinion on these jobs to allow me make a final decision.

I would specifically like to know from the CBP and Law Enforcement Technicians at these locations what they like or dislike about their job.

Finally, where do the majority of new CBP Techs in Houston get assigned.

what's the job description for the CBP tech position?

Factors to think of when deciding between two similar positions:
-cost of living in both cities
-quality of life in those cities
-how far away from home they are
-does one position have an advantage of getting you where you want to be down the road?

I'll have a similar decision to make as well, ICE L/E tech or TSA security officer (in Cincinnati). For me, it's a no-brainer. I love Vermont and I have family up there.
