Act 120
hello. i am addressing this question to anyone on the boards who either knows someone or has themselves graduated from a pre-employment ACT 120 academy in PA. Are most of your smaller depts still hiring people part-time? what is the general hiring atmosphere in pa for ACT 120 grads at the present time? Thanks in advance for any insight.

I have not attended ACT 120 myself but I know a few that have.
From what I understand some department will come to the academy and actively recruit when they need officers and others will play the good 'ol boy system and let who ever has more hooks on the force. I have lived in Delaware County for close to 15 years and it has for the most part been a mixture of both. I know of a few departments in my county that will grab recruits before they graduate and others you'll have to do the leg work yourself. I am sorry I can't give you a more clean cut answer. Most of the guys I know in my area work part time and they didn't seem to have too much trouble getting on. You have I think 1 year from graduation to find a job or you will have to attend a refresher academy or something like that.
What area of PA to you live in. I was actually thinking about getting my ACT 120 as well.
Good luck to you.

I sent myself through ACT120, got picked up part-time as soon as I graduated, and shortly there after got hired fulltime. There were a few (not many at all) in my class who had been hired full-time and were being sent to the Academy by their Dept, and a few more that got hired while they were in the Academy. Most were still looking for jobs after they graduated. Hope that helps.
