E.c.u. ?
What does the acronym ECU mean, it seems to be a specific Maryland PD's term but maybe it's nationwide.

Not sure. We have ECT (evidence collection team), so it might stand for evidence collection unit. In our dept, ECT does most crime scenes. Our "famous" crime scene unit, only consists of a few folks and only handles MAJOR newsworthy super high profile crime scenes and even then, only if they are not busy - not working on another crime scene.

With respect to Maryland, ECU represently either Evidence Collection Unit, or Environmental Crimes Unit. The latter handles environmental investigations, and is made up of police, prosecutors, and other specialists...I know that the State has its own ECU, and the City of Baltimore may as well. Evidence Collection Units handle crime scene processing, and I believe that acronym may be used by some local agencies in MD.

ECUs answers
Thanks to everyone for their answers, re-placed into the context, it's obviously Evidence Collection Unit, now if I have a question, I know this site's the right one.
Thanks again
