Since the thread closed shortly after my post I'll repost here:
When investigators send out questionnaires to past employers do they expect to receive all of them back? I only ask because at one of my past employers there is no one currently there that can fill it out regarding my employment. I would assume not every employer can or does send the questionnaire back. Thanks.Three years ago my sister was diagnosed with multiple personalities, and there's nothing funny about that. But she phoned me the other day...and my caller ID exploded.

I am sure the company that you are talking about has some type of file on you that at least would give your start date and end date and if you were fired or resigned.

I saw on another forum that new recruits are required to sign a 3 or 4 year contract. Does it say it anywhere on the website (I didn't see it anywhere) or do they kind of slip that in when they bring you on board? I hate the idea of closing off other avenues that I've been pursuing for some time now.

I heard some talk that the department was thinking about doing something like that but I never heard that it went into affect. I hope we do start making officers sign a contract. There are a lot of agencies that do so because so many people get certified then leave. This cost agencies a lot of money. I guess if they do make you sign a contract then you will have to decide between the for sure job or wait and hope one of the others come through.

As far as I know there is no contract to sign and I doubt there will be one in the foreseeable future. Shrinking the time spent at the Academy would be a much better use of resources.

I agree the academy is way to long and drawn out for what we get. There is talk that the new recruits are going to start getting Lidar and DUI trained in the academy. If I had to bet I would say in the near future we will have people signing contracts before coming on.

Lawsuits in other states have shown those type of employment contracts to not be enforceable, so why bother? I can understand the department wanting to retain people but lets face it, right now it is a buyers market and things like 4-10's, 20 year retirement, take home cars and hopefully the end of FLSA in the new contract (not to mention a healthy raise) will go a long way towards a lot of those types of things.

I don't want to beat this to death but why would it be unforceable? My sister in law signed a contract with New castle County police in Delaware that if she leaves before her contract time she will have to pay a prorated training cost amount. If the department is offering you training and paying while you go to training then they should get a certain amount of years in return. For something that is not able to be enforced like you say, there are a lot of departments that make you sign them...... guess they all have nothing better to do then waist there time.

FYI all, this comes straight off of the MPD home page under minimum requirements:
Obligated Service
A candidate for appointment as a sworn member of the MPDC shall execute an agreement obligating the candidate to serve a minimum of 2 years as a sworn member upon successful completion of the initial training program.

Well, my latest update...
Just received the thin letter today, they have reached a decision due to "failing to meet the psychological eligibility" for the MPD.
What a surprise I must say....simply speechless...

Can't say man, had to sign on that dotted line.... to remain hush hush..
However, nothing is really coming to mind...
Now here is what I don't understand. The Applicant Suitability Board denied me due to the "psychological eligibility standard." There was no mention of an appeal process or when I could retest like others that have been denied. Is this different?Last edited by rleejr79; 05-11-2007 at 20:21.

Understandable, how long were you in the process before you got DQ'd?

Sorry about the news rleejr79. For what it worth, if you're going to get DQd for something, better to get DQd during the psych portion as opposed to a background issue. The latter tends to come back and haunt you. Besides, the psych portion can be a bit subjective. Varies from dept to dept. I suggest you reapply. You should have that option.
