Now that the UN is finished and the new fiscal year is upon us does anyone have any insight to the pace picking back up. Is there any positive information in regards to classes, etc. Just a little eager.

No. That counts as a mental disorder

I run a good bit...but I've never felt compelled to run 26.2 miles. Longest I've ever ran was a half-marathon, and that wasn't by choice.

I ran a full marathon about 4 years ago and my body is still sore I don't think my knees will ever forgive me.

I couldn't agree more! I haven't ran in 4 days due to some killer shin splints! I curse running every day!

I used to get bad shin splints. I acquired them at infantry school in Camp Pendleton climbing mountains on a daily basis.

I got rid of them by doing a LOT of stretching, ice rubs, Vitamin M, and...wait for it...rest. My ortho told me to not do any running for 4-5 weeks, and to do the eliptical or bike instead. He also suggested that I avoid putting more weight than necessary on the ball of my foot by changing my running stride to make the heel take more of the load.

I've been shin splint free for 3-4 years now. I probably just jinxed myself by saying that...but my ortho said the alternatives were to ignore him and get a stress fracture and/or separate my muscles from the shin bone

I can drive that 26 miles in about 15-20 minutes

I admire you marathon runners. I had a 1st Sgt. that never saw a marthon he didn't want to run in. Me? I can crank out my 3 mile PFT in the 18:30-20:00 range, but I never run more than 5 miles.

If you wanna talk distance, my 6'5" frame is hell on wheels doing forced marches. I've humped from here to places that you can't get to from here. Running? I could probably hump a marathon with a ruck on, but I'm not about to run it. Blah.

Thanks for the helpful tips. I've been googling the topic, trying to find quick fixes. Obviously everyone says that rest is the best for them. I had to do my yearly 1.5 mile run today for my inservice training for my job. It wasn't too bad until I stopped running. Then my shins were on fire. Guess I'll be hitting the eliptical for a few weeks! BTW, if I had to do a marathon, I would be the guy in front of the "pickup van" at the tail! Maybe that would be my motivation to get done before sun down! I'll let you runners have at it, and I'll stick to my 2-3 mile runs!

I use to get shin splints, especially after I stopped working out, and started back playing basketball fullcourt for like 3 hours straight, my shins use to kill me. The best way to get rid of the shin splints is to keep pushing yourself through the pain. Eventually your shin will adapt to the pressure that is being put on them and it will no longer hurt. I mean my splints were so bad that I couldnt sleep at night, they would hurt just that bad after a day on the court.

Got a call today, my initial interview is next Wednesday. I'm locking myself in my bedroom until then, and telling my children that they have to wear masks at home until after the interview so as to not share their germs from school with me again.

I am right there with you there FBI_SA_Jarhead. I myself have the initial on Tuesday and last week had to fly to and from DC. I was pretty nervous being in crowded international airports and planes so close to the interview. Here's to keeping a positive mind and staying healthy!

I wish you the best of luck, and any others that have had their initial interviews recently, please chime in with any last minute thoughts or considerations!
