    "Email address banned"

When I first found this site, I tried to register with my yahoo email address, which was relatively new at the time (I just created it about 4 months ago). I had never used it or attempted to log on to this site with that email address. Upon trying to register, I got a notice that my email address was "banned." I thought this was odd since I had never even visited the site. I subsequently used an alternate email address to create the account and soon forgot about it. Well, my alternate email address is expiring shortly (it's an old account from my alma mater) and I was trying to change my email address to my yahoo account, which for whatever reason is "banned." Can one of the moderators PM me and I will give you my email address to see if you can check it out for me. I can think of no good reason, other than error, that my email address should be blocked.

You cannot use a yahoo, hotmail or similar "free" e-mail account. Those addresses are all "banned" (it's not you - it's the address). We used to allow these addresses, but people who were banned would simply create a new screen name and crawl back onto the board, only to be booted over and over again. It was a big headache.

Makes perfect sense. It might help in terms of UI for the website if the message that came up when you try to use one of those email addresses says something like "Yahoo and Hotmail addressess not allowed" rather than "banned." It's a bit misleading. Thanks for the answer, however. In hindsight I bet I could have found the answer somewhere else on the site, so I appreciate the quick turnaround.
