New York State Park Police contract

A fellow recruit in my MPTC academy is being processed for the New York State Park Police. His recruiting officer told him a few months back that the NYSPP will be getting a new contract soon, and also told him that it will put the salaries "just shy" of the Troopers. Just wondering if anyone knows anything about this new contract, when it will take affect, and how much the new pay will be.

Here is a copy of the NYS Park Police arbitration award. I don't know what the figures turn out to be, but it looks really good for them. Maybe someone that's good at figures could tell up what it turns out to be.

If the Park Police works like where I work, (Dept. of Corrections) and includes all of the extra pay right from the first day of the academy, then the starting salary should be around $45,000 instead of $34,000. Also need to remember that it was a two year arbitration, through 2005. They still are behind for '06, and any upcoming raises after that. Pay should be right up there with the State Police with the next arbitration, which is already in progress as well. Hope this helps out. I know a few Park Police officers, and they all love their job. If you have any questions or anything, let me know and I can pass them along and try to get more information.

It looked like 3% to me according to the binding arbritration agreement. Some money in the LEAP $2500, Expanded Duty $2575, Clothing $625, Marine $1500 and if you're DEC Hazmat $1500. You may see a 10 year guy around $65,000 and a 10 year Trooper at $81,000.

Here's NYSP (Trooper) Base Rate as of 4-1-6:
    Tr1 $50,374 (Academy)
    Tr2 $58,954
    1 $62,705
    2 $66,534
    3 $68,826
    4 $71,544
    5 $74,566

Here's NYSP rate after location and expanded duty and longevity.

    Upstate O/P/Du NYC/R/WNass/Suff

    $50,374 $0 $0 $0 Tr1
    $61,606 $62,826 $69,326 $71,003 Tr2
    $65,358 $66,658 $73,159 $74,835 1 year Trooper
    $69,187 $70,487 $76,988 $78,664 2
    $71,478 $72,779 $79,280 $80,957 3
    $74,196 $75,497 $81,998 $83,675 4
    $77,218 $78,518 $85,019 $86,696 5
    $79,618 $80,918 $87,419 $89,096 6
    $80,018 $81,318 $87,819 $89,496 7
    $80,418 $81,718 $88,219 $89,896 8
    $80,818 $82,118 $88,619 $90,296 9
    $81,218 $82,518 $89,019 $90,696 10 year Trooper

I think you'll find the "just shy" is loosely defined. Troopers also have a 20 year retirement at half pay.

Maybe 1917Professor can help you find the figures out or the pay scale since he has it for NYSP.

Thanks to everyone for all the information. "Just shy" - haha, yes, I suppose it was loosely defined in fact! I think I might wait it out for the next trooper's test, but we'll see.
