I did some searching and found that most of the post information about the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation was old. I wanted to see if anyone could provide some current information about the special agent positions they have?
I know they talked about getting their salary up, and was wondering if there were successful. What is the salary range?
How about work schedule? M-F?
What equipment is issued?
Do they get take home vehicles?
What type of cases do they work mostly? I know they did a lot of fraud and similar cases, just wondering if that has changed at all?
How about a computer crimes unit? Do they have agents doing these investigations?
Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

TBI Special Agents start out at about $36K per year at the TBI Crim Investigator I level. There is a 2 year probationary period, after which you are promoted to the Crim Investigator II level. Field agents typically top out around $62K per year, after 10 years of service.
Work schedule is typically M-F, but you are subject to call outs when nescessary. Agents are given take home vehicles. Equipment is typical stuff: raid gear, handgun, long gun, stuff for processing crime scenes, etc...
Casework for field agents varies: homicides, public corruption, fugitives, embezzlement, AMBER Alerts, intel, etc... TBI has a dedicated division that handles drug investigations, as well as a unit that handles Medicaid Fraud. The TBI Medicaid Fraud Control Unit is one of the best in the nation. I am not aware of a unit dealing with computer crimes, but they do have people that handle computer forensics.
Hope this helps.
