Hells Angels bidding for police laptop

TORONTO, Dec. 21 (UPI) -- Toronto police say Hells Angels gangs are trying to get a laptop with surveillance data in order to quash investigations.

Detective Inspector Don Bell said the gangs try to do counter-surveillance on the police and sources within the force have said gang members are offering $5,000 for a stolen laptop with information on Hells Angels investigations, the Toronto Sun reports.

A laptop was stolen in December 1999 while the department's Biker Enforcement Unit was monitoring the a 15th anniversary celebration for the gang's Quebec chapter.

Information about police investigations of the gang on the laptop is thought to have led to a November 2004 murder of an informant.

Rene Charlebois, a member of the Quebec Hells Nomads, pleaded guilty to the murder.
