    ICE Equipment Issued

I was wondering what is the standard issue of equipment for new ICE Special Agents. I know based on searches that they are carrying SIGs for a duty weapon, but couldn't find anything on type of body armor (i.e. second chance or ABA ect.) boots, tactical outer carriers, entry weapons, or uniform items. Just triing to get a idea of what might be issued verses may have to purchased or what I already have. Thanks.

I got U.S. Armor w/ a couple of carriers and shirts, boots, leather holster and mag/cuff case, raid jacket, tac vest...all these were issued at FLETC. The only thing I got at the office was a t-shirt. I've heard that the new people are getting batons.

I was wondering the same thing. Does ICE provide you with a tactical belt and holster or just the leather pancake?

I guess all ICE agents don't have 870's or Steyr AUG's in the trunks of their cars either, huh.

Generally new agents will leave FLETC with a gun, a badge/creds, body armor (to include tactical carrier), raid jacket, pancacke holster and a mag/cuff case. Almost all "tactical" belts/holsters/etc. is on your own dime. Other necessary equipment (radios, nextels, laptops, cameras, etc.) is issued at your local office, and the type of equipment and amount of equipment will vary from office to office. Right now ICE is issuing 870's, M4's, AUGs, and various backup guns but again the availability of these probably varies greatly from office to office.

Haven't seen an AUG in years. Not that they aren't out there, just not many left in the field. Most carry the M4/M16. I carry the MP5.

I guess that just proves the point that things vary greatly from office to office. When the M4's hit the field in our SAC region they took back all the MP5's (we only had about 8-10 to begin with). We've only had M4's in the field for about 4 months so there are still pleantly of AUG's out there. I guess they plan to replace them all when they can but apparently they don't have enough M4's for every agent assigned a rifle.

Are all agents issued a longarm (provided there are enough), or are they issued depending on the type of group you are in and the type of enforcement actions you might be involved in?

    Ops Sec

For those ICE SA's disclosing what type of weapons we have or don't or how many firearms a particular office has should not be discussed in this medium. I don't see this type of info being shared in open sources. For new hires, what type of equipment we get issued or not you soon will find out at FLETC. Just my opinion........

    Folks,
Just because a question is asked does not mean you have to answer it, and some are better off being answered in very general terms. I don't see anything in this thread that raises specific OpSec issues, but it's a good reminder to think about what you are putting out on a public board before you actually do it. From an OpSec perspective, you have to keep in mind that the bad guys out there collecting information on our agencies, facilities, and personnel have all the time in the world, and can do so over an extended period of time. It's very easy to look at a single question, such as what sort of equipment does your office have, and say to yourself, "well, that's not all that sensitive and I can always answer it without identifying what office I'm at." Except that once upon a time in the success forum you may have posted that you had just been hired by agency XYZ and assigned to the Phoenix office. And then in another thread a few months ago you answered another question about how many agents you have in your office. And more recently you responded to a question about what sort of government vehicles your agents are driving, or where agents in Phoenix look for housing, or any number of other innocuous questions. . Taken individually and over time, it's easy to see these as individual questions by curious applicants and for you to try being helpful by giving them an answer. Collectively, you've just filled out a questionaire that a threat group could use to help identify your agents, the equipment they have, hours they work, where they live, types of operations they're involved in, and who knows what else.

None of this means you should stop answering questions or trying to help people, only that you should take a few seconds to think about the answers you're giving and whether or not it's information that is sensitive, not publicly available, and/or could be exploited by people who would want to do harm to you or others.

It doesn't take much imagination to figure out what weapons FLEO are issued or possibly carrying. Its either that or this, but its not a special super duper death ray that is top secret. Lets not get all bent out of shape if we happen to say "M-4" or SMG are carried by some, but at the same time one should be able to figure out the answer to the question with out having to ask unless patience was not high on someone's virtue list. The particular weapon one carries or agency that issues it, doesn't make the man, the mighty pen for the most part will.

    I agree..........

    Ricky,
I agree with you to certain to point. When I'm executing an arrest (admin or criminal) or a search warrant on a MS-13 gang member, a dope smuggler (Los Zetas) or Johnny AlQaeda at that time they will know what I have been issued to perform my job. The point is that this forum is not secured at all, having said that, if any criminal oganization is collecting intel on us, we just gave them a complete intel report. We all know that some criminal groups are stealing or manufacturing badges, uniforms and gear to pass themselves as a legitimate LEO, disclosing what type gear or uniforms we get issue we are is giving them an advantage. Let them try to figure it out without us making it easier for them. I'm not being paranoid or bent out shape, I'm just being careful............can you fault me for that?..........

I'm a former Fed LEO, and everything I've read in this thread has appeared in over the counter publications. "Combat Handguns," "Guns & Weapons For Law Enforcement," "SWAT", etc. regularly publish reports on the latest and greatest issued weapons for various agencies, so it's not like any secrets are being divulged here. Besides, if not here, it's out there someplace else anyway. There's no need to get your shorts all in a bunch.
