Thread: Drug Test - False Positive?

Well I'm hired for the job and have some paid hours logged, but I do have to attend a drug test at my leisure.

Being overly paranoid, I am wondering if anyone has encountered a false positive for Marijuana use? I'm in a group living environment (University) and so some secondary inhalation in the hallway, etc. is possible. I haven't smoked weed myself.

In general, if I do test "Positive" am I immediately discharged or is there an opportunity to investigate / confirm?

Personally, I think you are being overly paranoid. If you in deed haven't smoked mj then thats the best you can do. Go P in a cup and get it over with. There is no advice that anyone can give you on this board that is going to alter the test with which u are going to take. My .02.

Last test I did to get hired, they split the sample up. If anything was found on the first test, then they test the second sample at another lab or something. I wasn't worried. I was much more concerned about a false positive (or what ever it's called) when I was telling the truth on the poly, but I passed that with flying colors too.

Don't worry about it.

I have been to seminars on this ..and several DRs have explained it like this..
If u and 10 buddies are in a Volkswagon Bug with the windows up and they are all smoking weed...but you do not smoke u will not test positive...they say u can get high with secondary inhalation but not test positive...
just my experience.

i test people all the time in my job, probation. I use screening cups and they are pretty acurate. usually a flase psoitive is the result of taking pills in a larger dose then prescribed.
I get those who test dirty saying i have a script for that. generally they do but if they had taken it as directed then it would not have been in the sample in with a high enough nanogram to trip the test.
As far as MJ If it comes up then it was smoked i get those who say they were around someone who smoked but generally they admitt to smoking it themselves.
If you are really nervous go get a drug test kit at rite aid

You could LIVE inside a bong and not test positive from secondary inhalation. It's one of the greater paranoia myths of our time. That and the cocaine positive test was due to you getting novacaine at the dentist. Wrong. Chill and good luck on the job. DM

This is actually funny. A famous Italian pro cyclist tested positive for cocaine a while back during the Tour of Italy. He blamed the positive test on first, novacaine from his dentist and then, on the candies that his Aunt brought back from Peru.

HAHA, thats pretty funny Cascade. Reminds me of the Seinfeld episode with Elaine and the poppy seed muffins.

I'd never heard the cocaine myth involving novacaine. I wonder how that got started?

Original drug test kits we used in the 70-80's period for cocaine would also pop for lidocaine, procaine and novacaine. Alot of drug agents got ripped before Becton-Dickson developed the two part test kit for cocaine. Dealers knew they could buy powered lidocaine or novacaine through dental supply houses (uncontrolled then) and sell it as coke. Snort it, you get a freeze...but that's it. NovaCAINE is thought by many to be in the same chemical "family" as coke, and the excuse was born!

US Embassy in Peru used to sell Mate de Coca (Tea brewed from coke leaves) which is very popular in Peru as a remedy for altitude sickness. Only when they found it shows a positive drug test for cocaine did the word go out to cool it. And THAT'S the Embassy!!

Poppy seeds used in baking in the US are not Papaver Somniferum or Opium Poppy seeds. Lots of poppys out there, but only one that has opium and it's not grown for consumption in the US. Rolls and Bagels are safe! DM-

Thanks DM. I knew that one was another urban myth but it was never explained to me.
