Any Philly area LEO's available for a question?

I am traveling to the city this weekend to attend a sporting event. I was wondering what the climate was like there as far as carrying concealed on credentials?

In the past I have heard ridiculous rumors about large urban north east (read NYC) areas having a hard on for out of state LEO’s carrying within the city limits and/or hollow point ammunition being an issue of contention. I just wanted to do my best to get the scoop on any potential problems that could be encountered with traveling armed. I will be flying into Philly and planned on checking my firearm in with my baggage.

Any insight to be offered would be greatly appreciated.

Short version for Philadelphia? Tin = You're in. I have never experienced, heard about, or heard rumors of LEOs from other areas experiencing any problems, even pre-LEOSA.

The rumors about NYC are inaccurate. Professional courtesy is very big with the NYPD (with very, very few exceptions).

Hollow points are only an issue in New Jersey.

Brother - NYC having a hard on for out of state cops? NEVER NEVER NEVER! Did I say NEVER? Because I meant NEVER! You beyond heard wrong for a source that is beyond un reliable.

NYC has always given cops from out of state no problem with their guns, EVEN pre HR 218. And when I say pre HR 218, I mean all of the decades and decades before HR 218.

Now, Jersey Troopers use to give out of state cops problems with their guns. We would occasionaly have mini battles between each other. NYC cops traveling home would have to go through that little stretch of the Palisades Parkway in New Jersey, after the GW bridge, before they entered the New York portion of the parkway - an occasional trooper or parkway cop would bang one of our guys. We would gracefully return the favor if we caught one of them in the city. Other than that, we have ALWAYS told out of state cops to bring their guns.

Well I remember back in the 70's, we would read in the NJ PBA newsletter that some NJ MOS had been arrested for a "minor gun charge" in NYC.

We knew what it was about.

You try to get the message out to guys, but there's always one a.............

Other than those few, it was the same way in NJ.

I can still remember that at least once every summer, some Arkansas trooper or similar on vacation in NYC would get involved in breaking something up and though mentioned, a weapon was never an issue.

I think the words one of the Loo's said were on the order of "We don't care if you carry a bazooka!"

Yeah, everyone has one or two bozos - like the fools that would write or arrest their own mother for a simple traffic violation.

But as a whole, we have always been all about bring as much big and bad firepower as you can - please bring it! -- This was pretty much when NYC was a dangerous city, so of course we wanted all of our fellow brother and sister LEO's to be safe while visiting.

If your going to Citzens Bank Park or the Linc (lincoln Financial Field) only on duty may carry. They do have lock boxes that both Philly pd and security do keep an eye on. Other than that you wont have an issue as PA is very gun friendly.

I've had my a$$ chewed by a NJ trooper for not hanging my badge out the window - so he wouldn't have had to get out of his car upon stopping me. And I've had NYPD take me and my buddies back to our hotel after we got lost on that damned color coded subway system which I'll NEVER understand. It truly is "badge-americard" in the city and around the north. There aren't words to express my gratitude.
