The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow.

As many of you perhaps looking to have a career in federal law enforcement have seen, we're not immune to politics or partisanship. Unfortunately. We are but pawns in the game of life, some of us more so than others.

That being said, for those of you who haven't been turned off by the recent record breaking shutdown, specifically of you interested in Homeland Security Investigations aka HSI, there's good news on the horizon. Well, if we're able to secure a budget that is. See my earlier comment about some being more of a pawn than others, was referencing the Department of Homeland Security. The department under which one will find such hot button items such as the securing of the homeland, be it via a wall or some other structure and the removal of folks who either didn't belong in the U.S. or committed some infraction leading to the forfeiture of their status with the U.S. by what we know as ERO, but you know as ICE. But, that's a different subject for a different day. Now, back to HSI.

If a budget can be secured for any length of time not measured in single digit weeks, HSI is looking to bring on 300 new special agents SA's) and 350 new Intelligence Research Specialists (IRS's). Please, though admittedly it may be hard, do not allow this recent rounds of political posturing and infighting discourage you from throwing your figurative hat into the ring. We, you, them and us are still needed to provide a service to the country which only a very few relative to the populations, can or want to preform. Screw both the politicians and the news networks talking head "experts". If the say Customs and Border Patrol as the name for Customs and Border Protection, a simple Google search would have told them the actual name of the agency and thus, please, disregard anything they have to say regarding the subject of the border in their "expert" opinion. BIG still has no idea what a border guard is, TSA officers are officers and not agents. Beyond conducting his background and security check, the FBI had no authority to investigate Kavanaugh's accusers, despite the cries from congress, because it fell under a local jurisdictions authority. Remember, your average federal LEO knows far more about the law, statutory authority and a myriad of other things than someone who simply won a popularity contest. Which applies to the vast majority of congress, regardless of their or your political affiliation.

But that is BIG's rant and he will now climb down from his soap box and again reiterate the following.

    1) Despite the vitriol being thrown and the historic number of days of this past shutdown federal law enforcement is still a noble and worthy career choice.
    2) Find the agency and mission/s which are right for you.
    3) HSI is looking to hire 300 SA's and 350 IRS's.

This. Every federal agency will become a political football at some point. 99.9% of the employees are just trying to keep their heads down and do the job we were sworn to do.

I will only add that when your politically-appointed agency head is trying to dismantle the agency and sabotage a 100+-year-old mission for someone’s monetary gain - all while hypocritically sending out the mandatory emails about ethics and integrity - remember this:

These people come and go. You will remain. To them, the oath of office is merely a bunch of words they recite in a ceremony while someone takes photos. To you, it actually MEANS something.

    Yep.

I wish all of you who are serving, a rewarding, safe and frustration-free career, but boy am I glad that I'm retired.

Time has flown. I am kind of disappointed at the downturn of participation on the forum...and at how many years have gone by!

Ah, you guys are going to make BIG blush. This place used to be rocking and it is disappointing to see it as empty as it has been. On a positive note, this place is chock full of advise and information accumulated from some outstanding forum members throughout the years. All one has to do is conduct a search and BAM, the info you seek is at your finger tips. As BIG nears inevitable retirement, no he isn't mandatory, yet he is eligible really really soon, he finds himself perusing this site for helpful info to assist BIG in planning out the next chapter of his life. I'd like to say "Thank you" to all who have contributed to this forum throughout the years for your advice and guidance. You've assisted far more people than you will ever know. Stay safe my friends.
